Twitter on Thursday announced the resumption of its new verification application process, starting with six categories and reviewing public apps globally to help users get blue badges on the micro-blogging platform.

“We are happy to inform you that from today we will start our new verification application process and review people’s applications for verification on Twitter,” Twitter said in a blog. This is a milestone in our plan to give more transparency, credibility, and clarity to verification on Twitter.’

6 Categories include government, companies, brands and organizations, news organizations and journalists, entertainment, sports and gaming, activists, organizers, and other influential people. Twitter said it would introduce more categories later this year, including categories such as scientists, academics, and religious leaders, which will be introduced.

Verification option to be found in account settings

Within the next few weeks, everyone on Twitter will see the new verification app directly in the Account Settings tab. We are gradually releasing it to everyone to ensure that we can review applications in time, the company said in a blog post. Once the application is submitted, applicants can expect feedback by email within a few days, but depending on how many open applications are in the queue, it may take a few weeks.

Twitter brings new policy.

If your application is approved, you’ll automatically see a blue badge on your profile, Twitter said in a statement. If you think we made a mistake, apply again 30 days after our decision on your application is received. Over the past several months, Twitter has worked to bring clarity to the verification eligibility criteria and has launched a new policy based on public feedback.

It also automatically removed the verified badge from accounts and started implementing policies that no longer meet update criteria for verification, such as inactive or incomplete. Twitter said it has also introduced new guidelines for verified accounts on the platform to encourage better interaction. The blue badge will be removed to verify accounts that repeatedly violate Twitter rules.
