My Hero Academia’s rise in the anime world can be attributed to many factors. However, one of the most intriguing aspects of the series is its vibrant, and colorful characters. All of them have unique powers and an interesting backstory that helps viewers relate with them in one way or the other. It is therefore not surprising that most of these characters have become fan favorites. Although the huge cast of characters helps the series impress more and more fans; however, it creates one problem that the show needs to address. My Hero Academia fails to give several important characters the screen time that they deserve.
The show mostly focuses on Izuku and it makes sense since he is the protagonist. But the Pro Hero and U.A Sports Festival Arc have proved that the series is just as good, if not better when other characters are allowed to shine. If the series gives the same chances to several of its deserving cast members to better explore their backstories, dreams, and motivations, the show will probably become even more impressive.
My Hero Academia will struggle to lure more fans if it continues to tell the viewers only the basics about so many important characters. With the knowledge of negligence of the series towards its characters, today we look at the five characters on My Hero Academia who deserve more limelight.
Nejire Hado
As it has been observed over the history of most Shonen series, My Hero Academia appears to neglect its female characters. Ochaco Uraraka despite being the heroine of the series hardly gets any attention. So, it is not surprising that Nejire Hado is rarely allowed to tell her story. Despite being part of Big Three, she never really gets the same screen time as her companions. She is stronger than an average hero-in-training but fans don’t get to see her in action. It is heartbreaking that her fellow Big Three members Tamaki Amajiki and Mirio Togata, both get their backstories and solo fight while Nejire is hardly even seen again.
The only time the viewers get to see her after the introduction of the Big Three is when Nejire wins a beauty pageant. However, the series still has an opportunity to explore her backstory and powers. So, My Hero Academia can still fix its mistake and give one of the most promising characters a chance to prove herself.
Tsuyu Asui
Tsuyu’s Quirk has often got My Hero Academia fans comparing her to Spider-Man. She was introduced as someone with the ability to do whatever a frog can. So, she can be called a frog version of Spider-Man. Knowing how important Spider-Man is for Marvel, gives one a perspective of how My Hero Academia has failed to make use of her potential. Tsuyu’s unique Quirk along with her calm, intelligent, and tactical mind makes her the ideal character to become a future top-hero someday. Sadly, she is yet to get the screen time that she deserves.
Denki Kaminari
Denki Kaminari is one of those characters on My Hero Academia who has a really strong Quirk but has been relegated to the sidelines irrespective of it. Electrification can prove to be one of the most dangerous Quirks in the series if explored properly. Unfortunately, the show has not done it so far. Although Kaminari becomes unresponsive and drooling once he overuses his powers but that is something that can be fixed. He has already addressed his power output issues and it’s only a matter of time before he does the same for the side effects of overuse. As his backstory has not been explored yet, the show still has an opportunity to given Kaminari more screen time, and turn him into an important character in the series.
Fumikage Tokoyami
Whenever there is a discussion about the most powerful student of Class 1-A, Tokoyami’s name always comes up. Although he has played an important part in some of the arcs, the viewers know nothing about his personal life. The series is yet to explore the true extent of his powers. When he once lost control of his Quirk, Dark Shadow the fans did get a glimpse of how dangerous Tokoyami can be. But, unfortunately, he is not given the same limelight as Bakugo or Shoto. Tokoyami has the potential to defeat the top hero-students, and it is, therefore, crucial that the show gives him more screen time so the fans can finally know his backstory.
Momo Yaoyorozu
Yaoyorozu is the most popular female character in My Hero Academia. However, as anime fans know most female characters on a Shonen series are neglected, she too has been given little screen time compared to her male companions. She has an intriguing Quirk but the fans know nothing about her personal life. It would be interesting if she is given more screen time in the upcoming season so her fans finally get to know more about her. The creation Quirk can be made stronger by increasing her speed. She is innovative and intelligent so it won’t be surprising if she leads other students in Season 5.
All of the mentioned characters have remarkable potential. Sadly, they have not been given the chances that they deserve. Hopefully, the creators would see their potential and give them more screen time in the upcoming season. Whenever My Hero Academia has given a character from its vast cast a chance, most of them have ended up impressing the fandom. So, the series has only got to gain if it gives these five characters more screen time.
