Did you also miss the comedian “Luenell” in the Borat sequel? If you have, then you should know that she wouldn’t have missed you. She got her money without doing anything.
Fans of Sacha Baron Cohen and Borat Sagdiyev must have gotten themselves in front of Amazon Prime screens in the past couple of days to watch the sequel of the belly tickling 2006 film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” However, they must have noticed the absence of a fan-favorite character played by the beloved comedian Luenell. The actress was one of the few hired actors in the 2006 film.

In the 2006 film, she played the role of a prostitute who marries the titular Borat character (played by Sacha Baron Cohen) and brings him to his home in Kazakhstan. Luenell addressed the fans’ speculation on Instagram after finding that she hadn’t been shown in the film despite having been paid all her dues.
The comedian replied with her characteristic wit, appearing oblivious to the fact that she hasn’t made it to the film’s final cut. She said that it was surprising news to her and remarked that she was married to the protagonist in the first film and had two biracial children. She added a punch line at the end, saying that he must have married the actress Pamela Anderson.
But, you must be wondering why she didn’t make it to the final cut? There is no clear explanation, but several sources closely associated with the production team have revealed early discussions regarding her inclusion in the film. What we do have to understand is the fact that she was paid because of her union status at SAG-AFTRA.
Sources have confirmed that it was unclear from the beginning how “Luenelle” should feature in the film, and the creators were considering a cameo or using some cut scenes from the first film. At last, the pandemic played its part, and the logistics that appeared after that weren’t feasible enough for her inclusion, so she was finally left out of the film.
Being paid her full dues, Luenell believed that she would feature in the film until the final minutes. However, I do not reckon she is quite angry about it. She sounded all cool and funny in her Instagram post and said that her black friends helped the film 11 years ago but now that people are already “woke,” her exclusion is not way too much of an issue.
The 2006 film has been regarded as one of the funniest films of all time. Apart from being nominated for an Academy Award, it boosted its lead actor Sacha Baron Cohen to his only Golden Globe win to date.
Both Luenell and Cohen have garnered recognition in other projects after that. While the comedian played a part in the films like “A Star is Born,” “Dolemite is My Name,” “The Last O.G,” and “Black Jesus,” Cohen has starred in multiple Netflix projects such as “The Spy” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”
Several media fraternity representatives like IndieWire have reached out to the production team of Borat for further response.
Larry Charles directed the first film, and the second film has been directed by Jason Woliner.
