The season 2 of the show ended after a fight between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso’s students, which ended horribly for most of them, and in fact, Miguel had to be put on life support. At the demand of his wife, Daniel had to give up Miyagi-Do as well as Karate for good. On the other hand, Cobra Kai was taken over by John Kreese, Johnny’s former sensei. Daniels and Johnny’s love interest had sent him a friend request, but unfortunately, Johnny missed the notification.
With so many unanswered questions and several cliffhangers, season 2 ended, leaving many scratching their heads. However, it is tough to say what will happen in the upcoming season. Since both Johnny and Daniels have lost their dojos, it would make sense if they forget their differences to stop Kresse. Fans have also speculated over Ali’s return as the doctor who will save Miguel’s life as he is on life support. Although the chances are quite low still, the storyline will make more sense when she returns.
Daniel will reveal secrets from Mr. Miyagi’s past when he returns to Okinawa, Japan. This was confirmed in the initial season three teasers. Furthermore, three characters will also die in the upcoming season, as confirmed by Hayden Schlossberg, the show’s creator. Even though Miguel is on life support, most fans believe that he is not the one who is going to die, and it is expected that the death will be limited only to the adult characters.
Although Netflix had not released a full trailer for the show yet when it acquired Cobra Kai from YouTube, there was a trailer with a season three teaser. It shows Daniel pinned down by an unknown character. Daniel insists that he is sure that Mr. Miyagi, his mentor, will never keep secrets from him; however, he is challenged by the person pinning him down.
Just recently, Netflix did surprise everyone by releasing a date announcement teaser. It shows the brawl between the students of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso from season two in which Miguel got himself seriously injured after a fall. It also had a series of character shots in which Daniel seemed devastated, thrashed Johnny behind bars, Tory appeared fully-recovered, Robby in a juvenile detention center, and a bloodied but smiling Kreese. It ends on a positive note as Miguel wakes up in his hospital bed after a long treatment.
Season three of the show will be released on January 8, 2021. The series was scheduled for release in April this year; however, as the show was moved from YouTube to Netflix, it got delayed by a few months. The filming for season 3 was all done in 2019, and post-production was completed earlier this year. One can stream the first two seasons of the show on Netflix, and there is even a deal for season 4. This means there will be an additional season after the release of season 3.
As far as the show’s cast and crew are concerned, Cobra Kai has retained most of the stars from the previous season. The fans will expect that it will be just as exciting as it had been in the first two seasons. There are also many questions that they have been puzzling with for a long time; with the show’s return in January, the fans will hope that they will finally get answers to their questions. There are also a ton of unverified theories floating on various social media about what we can expect from season 3; the release will finally put an end to all the speculations. Although the last few months have been tough, if you are a Cobra Kai fan, you have a big surprise coming your way this January.
